THEATRE

…there are dozens of stages, from independent student troops, to experimental, “black light” and those occupying grand edifices such as the National Theatre. They are audacious, unique, experimental, progressive and classical…

National Theatre
Often called “Golden Chapel” – the National Theatre is one of the symbols of Czech national identity and cultural heritage, an endeavor to achieve the highest artistic quality. The historical building of the National Theatre, constructed in 1883, is generally considered the prime stage in the Czech Republic. You can see there Opera, Drama and Ballet performances.

Estates Theatre
The Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) is a historic theatre in Prague which currently offers performances of dramas, ballets and operas with the focus of the opera company on the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Premiere of famous Don Giovanni took place here). It is regarded as one of the most beautiful historic theatre buildings in Europe and dates from 1783.

State Opera House
The Prague State Opera resides in the beautiful Neo-Classical building which on January 5th, 1888 was opened as a Prague German stage with the performance of Wagner´s opera, The Mastersingers of Nürnberg. Prague State Opera has perfect acoustic, lovely decorations and provides one of the best performances (opera, ballet) in Prague.

Karlin Musical Theatre
One of the oldest and after the State Opera the second largest theatre in Prague, undergone extensive reconstruction in past years and nowadays it is a main stage for comedies with songs, operettas, musicals, excellent ballets or concerts.

Laterna Magica
Laterna Magika (Prague) is an internationally comprehensible non-verbal theatre. Its secret lies in the combination of dance, film and black theatre.

Black Light Theatre
Black Light Theatre (in Czech èerné divadlo) or simply Black Theatre is a theatrical performance style characterized by the use of black box theatre augmented by black light illusion. The distinctive characteristics of "black theatre" are the use of black curtains, a darkened stage, and "black lighting" (UV light), paired with fluorescent costumes in order to create intricate visual illusions.

Puppet Theatre
The National Marionette Theatre presents the finest puppet shows in Prague. Performances include puppet versions of Mozart's famous "opera of operas", Don Giovanni. In Marionette Theatre the story is recounted visually, with little or no spoken words. This makes the shows ideal for an international audience, of both adults and children.


CONCERTS

An unusually rich offer of big symphonic orchestras, chamber orchestras, string quarters, soloists, organ concerts etc. in the following historical buildings:

Rudolfinum - is one of the most momentous Neo-Renaissance structures in the Czech Republic. The monumental building housing a concert hall, a gallery, and a museum was the joint project of two renowned Czech architects, Josef Zítek and Josef Schultz. In 1992, the Rudolfinum became the home of the Czech Philharmonic and it is well-known as a main location of Prague Spring Music Festival.

Municipal House - a national cultural landmark is among the most significant Art Nouveau buildings in Prague. It is located in the very centre of Prague, directly neighboring the Powder Gate.

Liechtenstein Palace rebuilt in Classical style in 18th cenutry. Later on, the Palace housed many different institutions, until finally in 1980´s it was acquired by the Academy of Musical Arts. It was beautifully reconstructed and adjusted for the purposes of the Academy. Nowadays, the Lichtenstein Palace is literally full of music. Classical concerts not only by Academy graduates are held in the Martinu Hall.

Nostic Palace - a large Baroque building with a beautiful courtyard situated in the historical centre of Prague, at the Maltese Square; today it is a seat of the Ministry of Culture

Schwarzenberg Palace - situated at Hradèany Square near Prague Castle; One of the most beautiful and well preserved Renaissance palaces in Prague; part of National Gallery in Prague

Wallenstein Palace - is a Baroque palace located in the Malá Strana area, close to Prague Castle. It is currently the home of the Czech Senate. Concerts are often held in the garden.

Kolowrat Palace – it’s a Baroque complex of two originally Gothic houses, located in the heart of Old Town. It was restituted to the Kolowrat family after more than 40 years. Nowadays you can find here the seat of one of the scene of National Theatre – theatre Kolowrat.

Lobkowicz Palace - the only privately owned building in the Prague Castle complex, is home to the highly acclaimed The Lobkowicz Palace Museum, The Lobkowicz Palace Café, Midday Classic Concert and Museum Shop, as well as numerous elegant venues for private functions.

Klementinum - large complex of Clementinum is situated next to the Charles Bridge, right in the historical centre of Prague. The Mirror Chapel, where are regular concerts, belongs to the most important jewels of Clementinum. It has an inwrought interior with unique built in mirrors that cannot be seen anywhere else.

House At the Stone Bell - situated at the Old Town Square, is one of the most interesting medieval buildings in Prague. Nowadays, the house “At the Stone Bell” belongs to the City Gallery Prague and various exhibitions and concerts are held there..

 

ENTERTAINING PROGRAMMES

Folklore evening – after being greeted with one of the traditional Czech spirits shot, you will be enjoying traditional Czech dinner while watching the performance of dancers and musicians dressed in traditional clothing. You are more than welcome to take an active part in learning Czech songs and dances!

“Krizik’s fountain “at Vystaviste area (Exhibition Grounds in Holesovice) – available from spring to autumn, best to come at sunset and sit in the little amphitheater and watch the unforgettable show of lights, water and sound. Performances range from classical music to the popular today musicals and artists.

CRUISES ON VLTAVA RIVER

Jazzboat – it is a floating Prague jazz club with a possibility of dining on board while listening to the great jazz tunes. Cruises takes place at night and the boat is cruising not only in the centre of Prague, but as well the old industrial areas and river ports. Dinner is a la carte style. The boat restaurant offers a variety of specials, wide selection of wines and well stocked bar. The trip takes 2,5 hours, departure deck – under Cechuv Bridge.

“Sweet Prague”dinner cruise – three hours luxurious cruise offering unusual view of cite centre monuments lit up in the evening accompanied with live piano music and delicious served dinner.


OTHER PERFORMANCES /SHOWS /ENTERTAINMENT

Mozart dinner
Candle Light Classical Concert with Opera Singers from Czech and Prague Opera Houses (performance of two singers from Czech Opera Houses with five instrumentalists from Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra) – performed arias from famous „Don Giovanni“, „The Marriage of Figaro“ and „The Magic Flute“. It is Located in the historical Baroque Ballroom Boccaccio at very heart of Prague Old Town; sitting either at roundtables on the ground floor or Exclusive Balcony seats. Show starts at 19:00 – duration approx.2,5 hours. Performances are every week, either on Friday or Saturday. Modern cuisine inspired by Mozart time recipes: the dinner comprises three courses inspired by traditional recipes from the 18th century.

Cabaret “U Fleku”
Cabaret U Fleku has long tradition in Czech republic and for long it represented the best that Prague could offer. For one evening travel with us back in time to the beginning of the last century and experience the best musical cabaret of today. Evening is divided into two parts: firstly the traditional Czech dinner is served (3-course menu accompanied with 1 beer) and afterwards starts the cabaret performance. Performance by wonderful Czech professional singers, musicians and actors.
