TOSCA PALACE
Jean Baptist Mathey as an early Baroque building in Roman style built Tosca Palace between years 1660 and 1661 at Hradcany Square. It has two towers and two balconies in the front. But there were standing some Gothic houses much earlier - at the end of 14th century. From these original houses remained only that what we can see in the cellar of today palace. The house at the edge was bought in 1481 Jan Matapata and he let it reconstruct. After a great fire in 1541 Hanus Vobrocnik gained the house a joined it together with one neighbouring house for some time.
At the end of the 16th century the palace was in ownership of Oldrich Felix of Lobkovice, who bought two more neighbouring houses. In 1718 this house was sold for price of 20,000 golden coins to Anne Mary Francis, princess of the house of Medici, the wife of the last Toscanian Duke of the house of Medici. Since 1848, after his abdication, the palace was also owned by the Emperor Frantisek Josef I. and since 1918 the Toscanian Palace was in the ownership of Czechoslovak Republic. Today it belongs to the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
The Tosca Palace can be used for various social events like festive receptions (up to 1,000 people), banquets (up to 160 people), press conferences, fashion shows, concerts and many others.
