HARRACHOV

One of the most important recreational centres in Krkonoše is situated in the Western part of Krkonoše, directly on the border with Poland. From the south it is bound by steep slope of Čertova hora (1020 m. a. s.), from the north by less steeper slopes of Silesian ridge (Mrtvý vrch – 1059-m. a. s., Jakšín – 1115 m) The very important saddle is Novosvětský průsmyk (885 m), where is border crossing between Harrachov and Poland – Jakuszyce, international road E-65 and railway to Jelení hory (out of order) go through it.

This important ski resort is located in the western part of the Giant Mountains, in the valley of the Mumlava river. It is a good starting point for walks to the source of the river Labe (the Elbe). In the years 1983 and 1992, the World Ski Jumping Championships took place there. Apart from ski jumping, Harrachov offers numerous ski tows and well-kept slopes. The town is also well-known for its glass-making tradition. Cut glass products manufactured under the Bohemia Crystal label are justly world-famous. The local museum of glass presents the history of glass-making which began in Harrachov in the mid-17th century. The nearest border crossing to Poland is only 3 km away from Harrachov.

The resort offers 10 ski tows, 1 chair lift, 10 km of slopes of varying degrees of difficulty, about 80 km of cross-country trails, 6 ski schools for children and adults, snowboarding lessons, ski rental and ski service as well as rides on horse-drawn carriages.

The biggest tradition has meeting with Krakonoš - annually held enterprise since 1946. We are talking about popular shriving with a big amount of games, fun and show for the whole family. Flash point is arrival of Krakonoš with Devils. It is held regularly the first Saturday in March.

Lifts: A chair lift to the Čertova Mountain has been in operation since 1983. It is 1,320 m long and has a rise of 365 m. Its maximum capacity is 900 persons per hour. The chair lift operates daily from 8.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
