SPINDLERUV MLYN

This best-known ski centre of the Giant Mountains is situated in the valley of the river Labe and on the surrounding slopes. Some of the formerly independent settlements such as Svatý Petr, Bedrichov, Labska and Horní Mísečky today also form parts of Spindlerův Mlýn. The town was established as a mining village. Silver and copper used to be extracted here until 1704. At that time, the village consisted of several wooden houses and a mill. The mill belonged to the Špindler family which later gave the name to the whole town. The number of tourist beds of all categories and price ranges in Špindlerův Mlýn is estimated at 8,400. Skiers are attracted mostly by the sports centre in Svatý Petr, by the pistes on the slopes of Pláň and by the Medvědín sports centre in Horní Mísečky where the skiing season often closes as late as in April. Every year, different sports contests take place there.

Winter in Špindlerův Mlýn
Spindlerův Mlýn, with its 25 km of well-kept slopes, is the biggest ski resort in the Czech Republic. It has 2 chair lifts and numerous ski tows with a combined capacity of 13,200 persons per hour. In poor weather conditions, the Svatý Petr sports centre makes artificial snow to prolong the skiing season.

Slopes and Ski Tows:
Ski tows usually operate from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Each skier can choose from 16 slopes and find out which one suites him or her best. The ski centres Medvědín and Svatý Petr use their own system of season tickets which are not accepted at the shorter ski tows.
